I know how a lot of people feel about Halloween. Some believe it is a Satanic event. It may have started out like that centuries ago, however at least for me it has evolved into a really fun event. I love decorating the house with fun and/or scary decorations. I gave my blinking eyeballs to “Mommy” this year. It was only a string of three eyeballs. She has the perfect bush outside her house for them and already had her own set of three! Amazing how we all think alike isn’t it?
Anyway, on television, they usually start showing all of the “scary” movies during the month of October . Of course, I especially love Frankenstein with Boris Karloff, Dracula with Bela Lugosi, and the Wolfman with Lon Chaney, Jr. Now, if you really want to be scared, use the month of October for driving lessons with your children. Six of the kids did all of the practice road time with me! News flash: Grey hair can be colored, nails do grow back. However, you will bruise your lip if you bite it too hard. With a little bit of stretching you can ease the pain in your foot from stomping on the imaginary brakes. Call me if you want those exercises. If you like to scream during spooky movies, drive with a new student driver. It can be bone chilling! As a general rule, the kids did a pretty good job. There were some that were easier to ride with than others and for some, it is still that way. You know who you are! I am sorry to be sexist, but the boys were generally a little more confident and I was calmer with them. Note to parents – make your girls drive your tractors/lawn mowers. I think that is the key! We live on rather narrow roads, being out in the country. Often there is a ditch right at the edge of the road. I know I broke more than one nail clawing at the door handle! The handle survived, but I don’t think we will ever be able to repair the vinyl though. Somehow we have all survived! And we laugh about our driving stories. Now I get reprimanded for back seat driving. I disagree. In my mind I will have no problem becoming the elderly woman chauffeured around like Jessica Tandy in “Driving Miss Daisy”. Come to think of it, she did a lot of backseat driving – I guess I am okay with that. The kids will just have to live with it. So, for a terrifying night of chills and thrills, on or around Halloween take a ride with new driver or one with a temporary license. It will be an experience you will never forget!!!!! to edit.
