Have you ever looked around at how many people do and do not wear wedding rings? Now, in some professions like perhaps construction it might be dangerous to wear a ring. "Doc" has had to cut a few off in his career and/or repair the damage from an accident that included a ring. But even that is not a reason to assume why someone does not wear their ring. Maybe I am mistaken, but it seems to me that as a general rule, almost all women wear their wedding rings. I know I do. Personally, I take them off when I am gardening or something like that but I feel naked if I go out without them. So, I guess I am concluding that while a great number of men do wear their wedding rings, a great number of men also do not. "Doc" did for seven years and then decided that it was too much trouble at work. Okay, but he doesn't wear his any where else either. I must admit that we have talked about it several times, and that it bothers me a lot. I see women when we are out and about, and the single ones tend to look for that sign of a ring before they flirt. Not to mention, that in our church, the wedding ring carries a great deal of significance. Anyway, I have been pleased to see that my son in laws do value their wedding rings and wear them almost all the time. And of course you know that there are stories about those rings, if you know our family!. The morning after their wedding, "Mommy" and her "Trooper" were leaving for their honeymoon. They had stayed in a nearby hotel and had taken a shuttle to the airport. We received a frantic call from the airport early that morning. The "Trooper" had left his wedding ring on the bathroom counter at the hotel! First day, never wore rings, it is quite understandable. A quick call to the hotel located the ring. A few relatives who were coming to our house for breakfast were at the hotel and were able to pick it up for us. Problem solved! And I believe that was the one and only time for him. Then there is the "Admiral". I believe we have gone through three or four rings with him, I have lost count and honestly cannot remember. A couple of them were lost due to holes in pockets, I think. My favorite lost ring stories for the "Admiral" are the ones where he went fishing. I believe the first one was simply a man overboard deal. He dropped the ring in the water. So one day, some lucky person may catch a fish with a ring inside it! The next time he went, in addition to not wanting to drop it in the water again, he didn't want the ring to get all gunky. That was very thoughtful. However, somehow in removing it and looking for a safe place to put it, the ring ended up in his mouth. And he swallowed it partially and in trying to choke it up, lost it again. Never one to give up, and always trying to learn by his mistakes, he has replaced all of his rings. Its been a while since he lost one, which sometimes makes me sad, because I miss the stories. Anyway, guys wear your rings. Even if you hate it, it probably means the world to your wife and would make her very happy!
